Cultivating the Whole Person: The Arts Program

Overview • Program Highlights • How to Help • My Own World

Overview

Our arts program started in September 2001 as COVE Creations, in which clients made clay pens, bookmarks and jewelry. When the Greenhouse began to flourish, the program expanded to include client photography taken in the Greenhouse and the North Burial Ground. Now, under the guidance of skilled instructors, clients participate in a variety of life enhancing programs.

Currently, Greenhouse-based projects include:

  • Digital and film photography
  • Photo editing, printing, matting and framing
  • Painting: acrylics, oils and watercolors on canvas, paper and other base materials
  • Line drawing using pencils, markers and other drawing implements
  • Ceramics: Greenware through completion via kiln firing
  • Jewelry created using fine quality beads, metal and semiprecious stone

Center-based projects include:

  • Photography
  • Painting and drawing
  • Ceramics
  • Jewelry design
  • Music
  • Paper craft (card making)

Our clients’ creations are sold at the Greenhouse, and at local fairs and art festivals.

Program Highlights

Photography

Using digital and traditional film cameras, clients explore their environment and capture their impressions of the world around them. With staff assistance, clients will edit, print, mat and frame their photographs.

Painting and Drawing

Clients use oil, acrylic and watercolor paints to create unique works of art on canvas, paper and a myriad of other bases. By using pencils, markers and other drawing implements they can produce awe-inspiring masterpieces.

Ceramics

Through the very generous donation of ceramic molds and supplies, the clients of the Groden Network now can enjoy creating quality ceramic goods for personal use and resale.

Jewelry

Since September 2001 the clients of the Cove Center have produced quality necklaces and bracelets which have been sold through local vendors.

Music

Initially, the music portion of our program was Karaoke. That tradition continues today, but the program is also expanding to include classes and sessions with local musicians and music students!
